The Bridge: Episode 2 (October, 2024)

With the second installment of AMCA Webinar Series, The Bridge, AMCA continues its mission to foster connections between artists and their communities through socially engaged art. This session welcomes Artist-Curator, Artist-Scholar and Prof. Dr. (DFA) Jay Koh, as our distinguished guest. As the founder of the International Forum for InterMedia Art (iFIMA), Jay Koh brings a wealth of experience and a holistic perspective to the field. He will be talking on the topic of “Expanding Knowledge: Practice to Praxis”.

What is the webinar about?

This webinar is an introductory talk for artists, social-cultural activists, and public engaging practitioners who are interested and/or already involved in writing and research. These two main forthcoming series aim to help them in expanding their outreach, improve their skills and work in participation with others in different areas, such as social work, education, and science. This will explore how to collaborate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and work consultatively towards common goals.

This session will be conducted in English and live Burmese interpretation will be available for the audience. Registration closes at 7:00 PM on October 19, 2024.

What will you learn?

Jay will be discussing the importance of holistic, critical thinking and evidence-based analysis. By using accountable standards, similar to those found in international tertiary education, various research methods, peer reviewed journals and writing techniques will be delved into. Beyond praxis-based skills, Jay will also share how to navigate complex social and cultural contexts. Attendees will learn how to work collaboratively with people from different fields and communities to address pressing contemporary challenges.

What's next?

After the talk, we'll encourage the attendees to participate in a follow-up consultative workshop to gather their understanding and insights. Based on the answers and feedback, a series of forthcoming workshops can be arranged in a form feasible for all parties.
