Background

Founded in December 2020, the Association for Myanmar Contemporary Arts (AMCA), is a dynamic and artist-driven organization dedicated to the advancement of contemporary arts and cultural knowledge in Myanmar. Since its inception, AMCA has been deeply committed to fostering collaboration, engagement, and partnerships within the arts and cultural community. Over its years of existence, AMCA has ardently upheld a set of resolute missions and visions. As an evolving organization, AMCA operates collaboratively with no single director or leader; rather, core members assume various roles and responsibilities based on their expertise and the needs of the organization. Despite many challenges and obstacles, AMCA remains dedicated to evolving into a well-structured foundation, endeavoring to empower and unite artists across diverse settings. Through its diverse programs, grants, and events, AMCA continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of contemporary art in the country and beyond.

VISION

A Vision Statement: Myanmar’s art community has been established as an integrated Arts & Cultural Hub through collaborative and decentralized activities. Contemporary Myanmar Artists engage the public from all regions of the country and act as bridges between diverse views.

Mission

  • Empowering emerging artists and Community-Run Art and Cultural Initiatives through nurturing environments, strategic partnerships, and leveraging art for transformative impact on critical, social and political challenges at the community level.

  • Empowering Myanmar Artists both inside and outside of the country by equipping them with the skills to improve arts education and to raise awareness about contemporary art, enabling artistic freedom, securing international support and recognition for their artworks, and to work safely, ensuring the protection and transportation of their art.

  • Elevating the Myanmar art industry by broadening its appreciation for diverse Myanmar art forms, promoting contemporary art on global stages, and encouraging collaborations between artists and collectors to realize creative visions.

  • Ensuring structural and financial sustainability of AMCA by developing into a more stable organization capable of long-term support for Myanmar artists and the art scene. This involves cultivating sustainable funding sources to uphold AMCA's pivotal role as the central promoter of contemporary art in Myanmar.
